New exhibition explores Wellington through the centuries

From Māpuna, 12:45 pm on 11 June 2022

Wellington Museum has launched Te Whanganui-a-Tara, a new exhibition exploring the natural and cultural landscape of Wellington's history. A highlight is the carpet flooring which maps out the city in such great detail that most Wellingtonians can spot their flat or family home or, for out-of-towners, the hotel they're staying at. Senior Curator Taonga Maori, Lawrence Wharerau says "there is the sense that our lives are built on those that have lived here before, and that we are mapping the way for the future. History is made everyday and this exhibition acknowledges that".
