Dr Elana Curtis
Dr Elana Taipapaki Curtis has been among a number of prominent voices raising the alarm about the government's decision to lower the eligibility age for bowel cancer screening tests to 58. But she says data shows the disease affects Maori and Pacific Island people at a younger age. Now an independent consultant, Dr Curtis built an impressive resume including associate professor at Te Kupenga Hauora Maori, University of Auckland, a Harkness Fellow in Healthcare at the University of California San Francisco, and the National Screening Unit at the Ministry of Health to name just a few.
