Classic Concert:
Sam Cooke - Live At The Harlem Square Club 1963
This is not the hit singles pop singer, but the real live soul man Sam Cooke doing a sweaty, raspy, set at the Harlem Square Club in January 1963. He is backed by King Curtis and his band, making it one of the greatest live soul albums ever recorded, with many rating this higher than James Brown's Apollo set. There is a real sense of intimacy, tension and urgency in the show with Cooke holding court like an old-school preacher.
