First live art auction since Covid-19 pandemic on tonight

From Midday Report, 12:18 pm on 19 May 2020

What's thought to be one of the world's first in-person art auctions to take place since the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown is being held in Auckland tonight.

Art auctions have taken place online during the past few months, but people will be turning out at the International Art Centre in Parnell for the auction of Rare and Important Art at 6pm.

Among the works being auctioned off is the Chris Cricket meets Buzzy Bee painting by New Zealand's leading realist painter, Michael Smither.

The International Art Centre director, Richard Thomson, speaks to Māni Dunlop.
