A whānau advocate says there is no denying some children need to be taken away from unsafe family environments, but the Ministry can do it without traumatising mothers.
It follows a new report into Oranga Tamariki by the Children's Commissioner, which included harrowing stories from 12 Maori mothers about their experiences with Oranga Tamariki.
Oranga Tamariki declined an interview with RNZ but criticised the report in a statement, saying these stories only represent a fraction of the 61 thousand children they worked with last year.
Te Aniwa Hurihanganui spoke with whānau advocate, Kathyanne Pederson.
