The Governent's just announced a $211-million spending boost for the Manukau Health Park in Manurewa, to improve its facilities and take a load off Middlemore hospital.
In February, a Counties Manukau DHB report found 35 women's breast cancer diagnoses were delayed last year due to excessive waiting lists.
Today, the DHB says the money will mainly be used to build four operating theatres, new CT and MRI scanners, and for kidney, breast and eye health services.
Te Aniwa Hurihanganui spoke to the Cancer Society's medical director, Dr Chris Jackson, who says the funding will help build capacity in the health sector.
