Two refugees from Afghanistan have taken out the top spots at the annual showcase of Māori artwork with their mahi whakairo - or carvings.
Mahdi, 18, and 17-year-old Ali Abed Hussaini moved here in 2014, and are students at Otahuhu College.
Over lockdown, the brothers and their cousin, Maisam Mohammadi, bought their own chisels and carved at home.
That mahi obviously paid off, with the brothers taking out the top prizes at this years Ringa Toi Exhibition - which showcases students work from around Aotearoa
Mani Dunlop spoke to them and their teacher Jay Mason, about their work.
