A foreign policy professor has cautioned New Zealand's Trade Minister that Australia will not take kindly to his recent remarks.
In a media interview this week, Damien O'Connor suggested Australia should follow New Zealand's lead and speak with "more diplomacy" when it comes to China.
Mr O'Connor has since phoned his Australian counterpart to stress he did not intend to speak for Australia.
The Minister was unavailable for an interview, but Māni Dunlop spoke to Professor Robert Ayson from Victoria University's Centre for Strategic Studies.
