Moriori have arrived at parliament ahead of their settlement getting closer to passing into law - a move which descendents describe as restoring their cultural identity.
Early last year, descendants met on Rēkohu to sign their Deed of Settlement, which includes an agreed account of their history, a Crown apology, and $18-million.
In 1835 a sixth of the Moriori population were killed, and those left behind were enslaved. Māni Dunlop spoke to chief negotiator, Maui Solomon.
