There's hope a long-term research project investigating bias towards Māori within the police will create transformational change.
The project, run by Waikato University and overseen by a criminal justice advocate, will look into how the police can ensure everyone is getting fair treatment.
It comes after RNZ recently revealed officers were approaching Māori rangatahi who had done nothing wrong and photographing them.
Māni Dunlop spoke to Ta Kim Workman, who will chair an external group to provide expert advice to the research programme.
