NZ Rugby League apologises, reviews rules on mixed teams
New Zealand Rugby League is apologising and reviewing its rules after 12-year-old McKenzie Anderson-Tito left the field in tears when told she couldn't play in the team she'd been a part of for seven years because she's a girl. She was playing in a tournament in Rotorua with the Ngongotahā Under 13s on Sunday when organisers told her girls aged 12 and over were not allowed to play in mixed teams. New Zealand Rugby League's chief executive Greg Peters told Joe Porter the policy is for player safety, but he says the way Anderson-Tito's situation was handled was unacceptable and can't happen again.
