New Zealand marks 35 years since gay law reform
It's 35 years since New Zealand passed the Homosexual Law Reform Act. A rainbow flag was raised outside Parliament this morning, which was a scene of celebration on that day in 1986 after the bill legalising consensual sex between men over 16 narrowly passed by just 4 votes. Lawmakers and campaigners marked the occasion with a waiata, karakia, and speeches in the Beehive.
