East Cape hapu set up their own checkpoint

From Midday Report, 12:15 pm on 30 August 2021

Hapū from the north of Ngāti Porou in the East Cape have re-established a checkpoint in an effort to protect themselves from Covid-19. Last week the hapū asked MPs, the council, and the emergency management controller to set up static checkpoints. A similar request to the acting Emergency Management Minister Kris Faafoi was also declined. A hapū spokesperson Tina Ngata told Māni Dunlop why they decided to set it up themselves.
