Families across NZ struggling to afford food - budget advisor

From Midday Report, 12:47 pm on 20 October 2021

An Auckland budgeting services trust says something needs to change - and fast - to help families struggling to feed themselves as food, fuel and housing prices increase faster than income.

Mangere Budgeting Services Trust's research into families found an average family of four in Auckland has $39 to spend on food a week.

Consumer NZ and The NZ Food & Grocery Council have joined forces asking parliament to shake-up the supermarket industry.

The Trust's chief executive Darryl Evans talks to Māni Dunlop about the severity and precariousness of the situation.
