Westport is on watch as rivers rise

From Midday Report, 12:45 pm on 10 February 2022

A state of emergency was been declared in the Buller region following record rainfall over a 24 hours period.

Westport was isolated by numerous road closures and parts of the town are braced for targeted evacuations, with a major concern that the Buller River could breach.

West Coast Emergency Management recommends people self-evacuate to evacuation centres or to higher ground.

Local Mayor, Jamie Cleine spoke to Midday Report.
