The Māori News programme 'Te Karere' celebrates its 40th Anniversary on Monday.
It started in 1982 as a four minute news programme in te reo Māori, fighting for air time and resource to bring Māori news to Aotearoa.
It has become the forerunner for Māori language content on air and on line - with many of our most well-known Māori media personalities working at Te Karere at one point in time.
Rereata Makiha worked at Te Karere for more than 20 years and spoke to Māni Dunlop.
