Woolworths New Zealand, which runs the Coutdown chain of supermarktes, says it welcomes the Commerce Commission's report and it will commit to the steps expected of it.
Woolworths declined to be interviewed, but in a statement managing director Spencer Sonn says he supports the introduction of a mandatory grocery code of conduct, and agrees with the recommended law changes that could free up sites for more supermarkets to be built.
Their competitor, Foodstuffs, also declined an interview, and did not respond to a request for a statement in time.
Māni Dunlop spoke to the chief executive of the New Zealand Food and Grocery Council, Katherine Rich.
