The New Zealand government has unveiled its first round of sanctions targeting Vladimir Putin, and hundreds of individuals and entities.
It comes after the Russia Sanctions Act was passed last week.
The toughest measures are against Putin and 12 of his top security advisors - who are now banned from travelling to New Zealand, and owning assets in the country.
The minister of foreign affairs Nanaia Mahuta spoke to Max Towle.
