Health Minister doubles training spaces for mental health nurses

From Midday Report, 12:14 pm on 22 March 2022

The Health Minister has presented a new plan today to bolster the mental health nursing workforce - by doubling the number of funded training spaces available.

The $77 million initiative comes from a $2 billion funding package announced in 2019.

But the Mental Health and Wellbeing Commission says the workforce is still under extreme pressure, and says the investment so far has done little to reduce how long people need to wait to see specialists.

The Health Minister Andrew Little spoke to Māni Dunlop about the attempts to recruit and retain staff.
