MetService has issued severe weather warnings for large parts of the North Island, with red warnings for Gisborne and the Wairoa District.
Between 200 and 350 millimetres of rain is expected to fall over about 24 hours in those two regions, beginning tonight.
There are also strong wind warnings in place across the top half of the motu.
