Bowen House, opposite Parliament, The Treasury building at 3 The Terrace, the Intercontinental Hotel and the Wellington Public Library are among 80 buildings that must undergo further inspections for earthquake damage in the wake of last month's Kaikoura shake.
Wellington City Council has written to the owners of the buildings, telling them more detailed inspections need to be carried out by engineers before February 10.
It says it will use its legal powers to force the inspections if owners don't comply.
