Will supermarket plastic bag ban make a difference?

Doubts are being raised about whether the moves by supermarkets to ban plastic bags will make that much difference to the plastic pollution. Last week Countdown committed to phasing them out by the end of next year, and yesterday New World announced it would also do the same.
