Is it all downhill from here? Ski clubs feel pinch as costs soar
Soaring running costs are threatening the future of some historic skiing and tramping lodges on Mount Ruapehu. Throw into the mix low occupancy over the winter, shorter ski seasons and dwindling club memberships - keeping lodges going is becoming an increasingly difficult labour of love. As RNZ's Emma Hatton reports, ultimately some of the lodges may have to go.
