The Education Ministry is being told ten times a day of incidents where teachers have physically restrained students. Schools have had to notify the ministry since the first of August whenever teachers use force with a child. In the first three months, it's received more than 400 notifications from 189 schools. Pat Newman from the Tai Tokerau Principals Association has spoken out frequently about the severe behaviour problems teachers are wrestling with. He told RNZ education correspondent John Gerritsen the notification system is a waste of time.
