Environmental Protection Authority's irrigation views 'bizarre'
One of the government's top scientists is being blasted by conservationists for talking up the environmental benefits of irrigation. The chief scientist at the Environmental Protection Authority Jacqueline Rowarth says irrigation ensures farmers can make money which in turn can be spent on environmental intiatives like controlling rabbits. But Dr Rowarth's views are at odds with the government, which says irrigation schemes are causing enormous damage.
