The Government is to spend 22-point-5 million dollars to make 30 rural state highways safer, as the road toll this year runs well ahead of 2016's. This comes as ten people, including two children have been taken to hospital after multiple vehicles crashed in Maheno, near Oamaru last night. The Associate Transport Minister, Julie Anne Genter, says improvements are needed to regional roads to curb the growing number of road deaths.
