Fight for Lumsden maternity centre faces new hurdle
The fight to save the Lumsden Maternity Centre has suffered another setback, with the Minister of Health refusing to meet with the Centre's directors. The rural Southland facility is on the chopping block under the Southern DHB's primary maternity system of care proposal, which has outraged the local community as well as midwives in the area and mothers as far afield as Te Anau. Our Otago-Southland reporter Timothy Brown has been talking to some of those who want the centre to stay open.
