Police have apologised to investigative journalist Nicky Hager in a case that has widely been seen as a victory for the media. The apology, and a payout, to Mr Hager were for breaching his rights during a 2014 investigation into his book Dirty Politics. Mr Hager's home was searched by police in October 2014 and in 2015 the High Court ruled that the warrant that was used was "fundamentally unlawful".
