Antarctica lost 3 trillion tonnes of ice since 1992

Antarctica has lost about three trillion tonnes of ice since 1992. A study published in Nature today shows the ice loss corresponds to a sea level rise of around eight millimetres. Before 2012, Antarctica lost ice at a steady rate of 76 billion tonnes a year. However, since then there has been a sharp, threefold increase. One of the lead assessors is Andrew Shepherd at the University of Leeds. He tells us the main concern is it's trending toward significant sea level rise.
