Govt considers proposed tough water quality standards

Tougher quality standards for lakes and rivers to replace the much-slated ones brought in by National last year are being looked at. Former minister Nick Smith was roundly criticised for introducing weaker standards for swimming which didn't actually measure the health of lakes and rivers. A proposal for a new regime's been given to the government.
