Friends of accused paedophile reject widow's accusations
Friends and colleagues of the prominent Maori leader Te Awanui Black have spoken of their shock and grief over his widow's accusations that he was a paedophile. In an extraordinary live video, a distraught Anihera Black says her late husband had been abused as a child and had gone on to be a predator himself. She encourages victims to come forward to tell their stories. Awanui Black died from organ failure in 2016 - he was an iwi leader, a Bay of Plenty Regional Councillor, a Maori Party candidate and a member of the Maori Language Commission.
