'We need a lot more' red light cameras - Greater Auckland
A transport advocate is concerned not enough is being done to deter red-light runners in Auckland. Auckland has added new red-light safety cameras to deal with the growing number of motorists running stop lights - more than 2,000 cases in the past two-and-a-half months. Auckland's Mayor, Phil Goff told Morning Report he has seen cars go through red lights every day. It comes as the death toll and number of serious injuries have gone up by 78 percent in four years - three times the national average. But Matt Lowrie, director of urban advocacy group Greater Auckland, is unsure if six new cameras is the answer. He talks to Gyles Beckford.
