NZ farmers face dry conditions as El Niño looms
It's looking increasingly likely that El Niño will hit New Zealand in the next three months bringing dry conditions to much of the country. Niwa is warning that may cause problems for some farmers, because soil moisture levels are already well below normal for this time of the year. However, it's not known yet just how severe El Niño might turn out to be. The principal forcaster at Niwa, Chris Brandolino, told our reporter Katie Doyle they're only looking a few months ahead.
