Govt plans greater protection for whistleblowers
The Government's plan to give greater protection to whistleblowers could see private companies and even charities, forced to report accusations of illegal or unethical behaviour. The State Services Commission recommended changes to the Protected Disclosures Act after an investigation into how fraudster Joanne Harrison managed to get away with stealing $725,000 from the Ministry of Transport. State Services Minister Chris Hipkins wants to hear from the public as to how far the law should go to protect whistleblowers.
