Porirua leader speaks of pain caused by six suspected suicides
A Samoan community leader in Porirua says young people are struggling to cope with a spate of six suspected suicides since June. Five were under 30 - some had only recently left high school. About 200 locals turned up to an emergency meeting at Porirua College on Monday night. Salevao Manase, a mental health worker, chaired the meeting and told RNZ reporter Phil Pennington the deaths have caused a lot of suffering.
