Lees-Galloway should quit over criminal's residency - National
The National Party says the Immigration Minister should resign over his decision to grant residency to a convicted drug smuggler from the Czech Republic. Jan Antolik, whose real name is Karel Sroubek, was jailed two years ago, for more than five years, for importing about five kilos of MDMA also known as ecstacy. Sroubek previously had residency status, but under a false indentity. Iain Lees-Galloway says he can't go into the reasons why he was granted residency, for privacy and legal reasons. But says it was a decision he did not make lightly. National's Immigraton spokesperson, Michael Woodhouse, told RNZ deputy political editor Chris Bramwell Mr Lees-Galloway is clearly not up to making the difficult decisions on behalf of New Zealanders, and he should step aside.
