Forest & Bird welcomes DOC ending kauri resin mining
Forest and Bird is hailing a decision by the Department of Conservation to try to stop a Northland wetland being mined for kauri resin and wax. Northland Regional Council granted resource consents for a company to dig up 400 hectares of the Kaimaumau wetland. Forest and Bird filed a High Court application in October seeking to overturn the consents. And yesterday DOC filed a similar application. Forest and Bird's chief executive Kevin Hague is in our Wellington studio.
