Auckland principals appalled by attendance services
Auckland secondary school principals are so fed up with their local truancy services, they're hiring their own staff to do the job. They say just one of the city's four attendance services is good at getting truants and non-enrolled children back to school and they want an urgent overhaul of the system. The Associate Education Minister, Tracey Martin, says she has little confidence in the services right across the country and she is considering a return to school-based truancy officers.
