Unpaid families: Funded Family Care policy needs to be ditched
Advocates for family members who don't get paid to look after disabled children say the Funded Family Care policy needs to be ditched. A new report commissioned by the Government points to a host of failings with the policy, but makes no recommendation for change. Under the policy, funds are paid to disabled adults so they can hire family members to look after them. But they're not allowed to employ their partners in that role. Paul Dale QC acts for parents who want to be paid directly by the Health Ministry, not by their children.
