It's day 34 of the longest government shutdown in US history. President Donald Trump has conceded that he won't be able to give his State of the Union address until the shutdown has ended, after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised to bar him from speaking in the House chamber. On Friday (NZ time) the Senate is set to vote on duelling Republican and Democratic plans to end the shutdown over Mr Trump's border wall. Our correspondent in Washington is Simon Marks.
