International project researches kuriri - Pacific golden plover
An international research project has been set up to answer questions about the kuriri, or Pacific golden plover. The kuriri migrates to Pacific nations including New Zealand each summer from the arctic. It's hoped that by tracking the bird as it returns to the arctic, researchers can learn more about how to stop its population declining. The project is underway at the Pukorokoro Miranda Shorebird Centre, south of Auckland. Jim Saville of Montana State University is the lead scientist. He talks to Susie Ferguson.
