Parent unsettled by music centre's failure to vet tutors
A parent whose son went to the Wellington Music Centre is unsettled at the lack of communication about how it was failing to vet tutors. The centre has suspended its lessons after admitting it had not been doing the safety checks required by law. Investigations are continuing into whether a convicted paedophile worked as a relieving tutor at the centre. Helen Richardson's seven year old son attended Saturday morning music lessons run by the music centre at Island Bay School. She told our reporter Phil Pennington she assumed the required safety checks were being done.
