Auckland Council votes to pay $500m more on City Rail Link
Some Auckland councillors are complaining they've been handed a raw deal by the government as they vote to pay half a billion dollars more towards the City Rail Link. The council and the government are fifty-fifty partners in the project which has had a one billion dollar budget blow out to 4.4 billion dollars. In the six and a half hour debate about whether to fund its share, several councillors hit out at the government for leaving Auckland in the lurch. And, despite agreeing to pay its part of the shortfall, the council will formally write to the government to ask it to help out.
