A Muslim community advocate is welcoming the terrorism charge being laid against the man accused of the Christchurch attacks.
Brenton Tarrant now faces 51 charges of murder, 40 of attempted murder, and one under the Terrorism Suppression Act.
The terrorism charge follows consultation between the police, Crown Law and the Christchurch Crown Solicitors Office.
In a statement, police said they had updated the victims' families and survivors of the Christchurch attacks.
