The Auckland City Mission says there's been a disturbingly high increase in people needing food parcels in the last twelve months.
There's been a 28-percent jump in demand - to about one million parcels. Chris Farrelly from the Mission says there hasn't been any noticeable decrease in the number of homeless in the city.
But with $5 million worth of funding from Auckland Council approved yesterday for its new housing development HomeGround, he's confident inroads can be made. Mr Farrelly told reporter Jessie Chiang it's a huge project, but people are still going hungry.
