From Morning Report, 7:51 am on 24 May 2019

Extreme weather has hit the US in recent days with tornadoes sweeping across states including Texas and Kansas.

Tornadoes have killed at least three people in Missouri, bringing the death toll from twisters across the US mid-west to seven.

Around 20 people have been rescued in Jefferson City, where buildings were damaged and cars tossed about. Residents have been evacuated in Oklahoma after severe flooding left homes hanging over the edge of a river bank.

Truck driver David Bell was in Jefferson City as the tornado hit, shattering his windscreen and pushing his truck onto its side.

Harry Horton is in Washington DC and has been covering the story.
