Forestry wood rescued after Pigeon Valley fire

What can you do with fourteen square kilometres of burnt pine trees?

That was the question confronting Tasman forestry operators after the Pigeon Valley fire.

Two companies tackled one of the country's largest tree salvages to date, and three months on they say it's been a success.

The rescued wood is now cropping up in Canterbury construction projects and Nelson housing developments and preventing future fires in Tasman.
