The Civil Aviation Authority will arrive in Masterton to investigate the scene of a two-plane mid-air collision on Sunday morning.

A plane belonging to SkyDive Wellington had just dropped off four parachutists and was coming in to land at Hood Aerodrome when it collided with a training plane. Both pilots died.

Graham Pearce saw it happen. Samson Te Whata and his cousin Kena were also watching nearby when the planes collided.

Wairarapa area commander Inspector Scott Miller says a helicopter was waiting at the edge of the aerodrome to land when the pilot witnessed the accident.
