The Defence Force are sending 70 people to the West Coast to help remove garbage from a spilt landfill.
Heavy rain washed out a landfill near Fox Glacier in March, sending rubbish into the Fox River.
About 5,500 tonnes tuns of rubbish, most of it plastic, became entangled with washed-up logs or was buried under rocks along Fox River.
Rear Admiral Jim Gilmour told me earlier the Defence Force will be there to complement what the local volunteers and DOC are doing.
