A survey of the population of the endangered King Shag has just finished in the Marlborough Sounds - and there's encouraging news.
The entire population is estimated to be just one-thousand and they breed only in the outer part of the Sounds.
Jonathan Large from the Marine Farming Association was part of the five-day survey team.
